THE PACIFIC HERRING SPAWN
Herring and their delicious, nutrient rich eggs are a keystone to our ecosystem. Their annual spawn attracts huge amounts of marine wildlife including eagles, sea lions and, most alluring to spectators, a variety of whales. This is an excellent opportunity for animal enthusiasts, photographers or those wanting to partake in something amazing.

“Lambert Channel and the adjacent shorelines of Hornby are the most important in all of B.C. for spawning. Nearly one in four of B.C.’s herring spawn in these areas.” – Dr. Doug Hay, former research scientist for Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) – from Conservancy Hornby Island
